One more week ...

The crunch is on!

Sort update - no time for more.

We live surrounded by boxes and yet even as I open drawers and cabinets - I see things that need to go into a box.  Yikes!!

To keep my sanity and health, I decided it is ok to have some items left behind after moving day.  After all, I have to return to clean up and prepare the townhouse for sale - I can retrieve stray items during those visits.  That is a huge concession from a type-A personality like me.

My body is very very tired.  My brain is going in a million different directions.  Rest periods during the day are the only way I continue to move forward.  Last week I had a full day that ended up as the rest period.  The energy it takes to keep moving forward is owned by a far younger person than I am.

We settle this Friday morning on the condo.  Starting that afternoon family and friends will be helping me move the extraneous items (and there are a bunch), that don't fit in boxes or are best moved by loving hands.  Saturday and Sunday there will be more of that kind of moving - with the professional movers coming on Sunday morning for the furniture and the boxes - 72 boxes so far.

I keep thinking that by Monday - a week from today - we will be moved in to the condo, but reality forces me to accept that we will be moved in completely (not unpacked), by the following Monday - 2 weeks from today!!

Never again!

You've heard it here.

The next move I make will be orchestrated by my children
into a one room Assisted Living facility!

Probably in a month or two!  Ha!

"See" you on the other side of the move.

It will be very easy for you to move in and unpack. The hardest part is the packing because of the emotional ties you have to certain things. It's a thought process about almost every item that goes into a box.....will I use it, who gave it to me and will they be angry that I'm getting rid of it, remember when we bought this etc. You won't have to think about those things as you unpack. The hardest part will be which cabinet to put the glasses and which one gets the pots and pans.

Hang in there...you are on the homestretch. Our appraisal is next Wednesday so hopefully we will have a closing date when we get back from vacation.

Oh my goodness. I don't know if I can go though this or not! Good luck to finishing it all up!

Wow! 72 boxes. I'm trying to think how many I would have. I've no idea.

You are so close! What a big accomplishment. I am glad you are cutting yourself a little break and moving the bits left behind when you are getting the town house ready for sale.

Gosh I sure hope you are correct. It has been a very touch road so far.

Yes, we are close. It will be so good to be passed some of this stuff.

The only advice I can offer is to start now cleaning out and downsizing. I worked on that part for almost 2 years. It made such a HUGE difference. And if it is done over the course of a long period, it isn't so terrible - plus, if you don't ever move, you at least have breathing space in your own home. I looked upon the process of downsizing (before we decided to move) as a favor to my adult kids, who would have been stuck with all our crap when we were gone.

Actually, I am going to cut myself and my co-movers another break this weekend. The temps are supposed to be extremely hot - dangerously so. We will make a single trip each day - Friday and Saturday and Sunday - with the private cars - the movers will have to handle the rest and if it spills over into next week - it will just have to be. Hope all goes well for Leslie on Wednesday.

Yes, the packing is the hardest part, not only is there the emotional attachment but packing involves trying to find just the right item to fill that awkward space left in a box. Unpacking is much easier every time.

I'm like you, this was my last move. If I move again my kids will have to move me I'd rather live out my life in this house.

Amen to that! Last move.

I haven't had much experience at packing and unpacking . When you move only every 30 years or so (smile) ... the details fade from memory. BUT I am encourage to hear the back end of this should go faster!!
