Happy Father's Day Dad.
It has been 48 years since I saw your face.
You died about one year after this picture was taken.
An accidental fall took you from your family way too soon.
You missed so much.
You were a troubled man, but I remember the father who tried.
You were not the best of husbands or the best of fathers
because of alcoholism but the seeds of that 'best' man were there.
I saw and remember those seeds.
I honor those seeds.

What a beautiful tribute to your dad.
That's a sweet Father's Day tribute to your dad, who, it sounds like, could be difficult. Hope you have a happy day with your family.
What a wonderful tribute to your father. Sorry for your loss. I like your attitude of understanding.
Actually he died in 1970 - my attitude then was very mixed. He didn't make growing up easy. I owe all my 'normal-ness' to my mom's efforts. I was young and did not understand addiction issues. But the distance of time - and a few life experiences of my own make my attitude towards my father's struggles more compassionate.
Poignant! A tribute that comes with maturity and understanding.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I will add yours as a favourite. I will be back.
That's a beautiful tribute to a HUMAN, as we all are.
Thanks, Michelle. He was human. I did see glimpses of the man who my mom chose to marry growing up. He was good looking, caring, committed to family. He had his periods of being a good father as well. In fact on my wedding day, he resisted any alcohol until after the ceremony. I know the strength of character that took. I loved him and hated him then. I just love him now. We know so much more about these things now. There was no help then.
